The Nocturnal and Tide Computer, handcrafted by our team at Dracolite, combine tradition and precision. Designed by skilled artisans from Spain, these historical instruments are faithfully reproduced to offer an authentic experience.
This replica is inspired by a Nocturnal and Tide Computer from 1570, signed by Humphrey Cole, the first English instrument maker trained by Flemish immigrants at the end of the Tudor dynasty. The original is kept at the British Museum in London.
According to legend, the nocturnal astrolabe was invented by Raimund Lill to help administer medicines during the night. This instrument, a star clock, determines the nocturnal hour based on the fixed stars visible in the sky.
The tide computer is used to calculate the time of tides by taking into account several parameters, such as wind direction, the age of the moon (number of days after the new moon), and the tide indicator dial.
